In case you question the title, America doesn’t have any real plans in case of a meltdown but instead a near certain guarantee that a meltdown will happen. No this isn’t another twisted idea for an episode of conspiracy theory; instead it’s a reality all of us face each and every day without knowing it.
If you do the homework and check the facts you will find that this country has taken de-regulation to a new low in the past few years. Between all the political agendas and spending cuts as well as the Washington D.C. corruption plague, we are no longer safe even with nuclear power.
There have always been dangers involved with nuclear power and the potential threat of fail-safe systems failing, but in recent years the number of de-regulation bills passed has nearly doubled along with nuclear engineers and safety inspectors for the nuclear industry losing their jobs by the thousands from the economic problems still facing this country.
Most nuclear power plants are reasonably safe, depending on how you define reasonably safe. Nearly all of the nuclear facilities in the U.S. are very old with little in the way of upgrades and modernizations being done since the time they were constructed, and no matter how well maintained it leaves a door open to real dangers and the potential for catastrophe.
Throughout this country everyone has either taken notice or been the victim of nature’s fury in recent months, horrific thunder storms, tornados, fires and floods have become a constant threat to daily life and now threaten two older nuclear power stations along the Missouri river due to massive flooding from recent storms.
Currently two nuclear stations along the Missouri river, The Cooper nuclear plant and the Fort Calhoun nuclear stations have been dangerously compromised from flood waters encroaching on them, the Fort Calhoun station has already been shut down and running on emergency power to keep the fuel rods cool.
These plants were built without consideration of the long term potential for natural disasters and other non-human related threats that could occur leaving all of us in peril from the lack of vision and planning by those who paid more attention to profit than safety and sensibility when it came to building them, then throw in the lack of regulation and insufficient monitoring and upgrading of operational systems and now you have real problems with very real dangers.
Is anyone paying attention? Does anyone even care? And how long before the real damage is done and it becomes too little too late? We guess that there is some real truth to the old adage that profit kills conscience.
America has not only become a second rate world power, America is facing the possibility of being the most unintelligent force in the entire world and we are striving to earn that title more and more every day. Curious to know if there is an actual plan for a meltdown? Of course there is, no regulations and no one looking will almost guarantee that a meltdown will happen. Good plan, for those rich enough to get away from it while it kills the rest of us.
