Education reform and possibly a complete overhaul of our education system would seem to be of greater necessity now more than ever. This on the heels of a speech made recently by Rep.Michelle Bachman, one of our current lawmakers from Minnesota and a perfect example of a failed education.
In order to keep the point as brief as possible, congresswoman Bachman heralded the U.S. as being a place where immigrants have never faced discrimination as she claims history to be “well documented” . She continued on to mention how our founding fathers deplored slavery and worked tirelessly to abolish it, another misstep as our founding fathers made little to no effort of that kind and in truth “owned slaves themselves” including of all people President George Washington.
Michelle Bachman also failed to understand that as a lawmaker in this country, knowledge of the constitution should have some degree of importance, citing the fact that our constitution still to this day regards anyone other than white Americans as three fifths of all other people.
Rep. Bachman sad to say is just one of many these days who wants to share in the duties of running America and yet has very little understanding of this country or its history. The lack of knowledge by our lawmakers is just the tip of the iceberg as we still face poorly performing schools, low numbers of qualified teachers along with social and economic conditions that have reached an all time low.
Someone needs to step up to the plate with real conviction and make some serious changes in our education system, not just find a good camera position for a rousing rendition of “the promises we never keep”.
