AMERICAN IDOL; The Hits Just Keep on Coming.

American Idol is once again proving itself to be a hit show for the record books and with no shortage of surprises and intensity Idol already has a memorable season that speaks volumes on its own.

This past Thursday March 24^th was no exception as Idol opened with a vast array of surprises including a birthday surprise for Idol judge and rock icon Steven Tyler. Tyler the frontman for the legendary rock group Aerosmith was rocked himself by an idol of his own Stevie Wonder singing his hit song signed sealed, delivered, one of the songs that inspired Steven Tyler to make his mark on the music world.

As Wonder finished the song he called Tyler out and lending some shock value of his own to Tyler’s night, belted out a rendition of Happy Birthday and joined by the Idol cast and crew presented Tyler with a birthday cake and pop-art portrait in Tyler’s likeness. AND THAT WAS THE FIRST 20 MINUTES, Talk about your Holy S@%T moments?

As the show continued on the drama was just getting started as one by one the Idol contestants found out their fate, and for Idol “rocker” James Durbin an entirely different fate was waiting just behind the stage walls. Durbin (man after my own heart) is a devoted pro wrestling fan “and we’re talkin devoted”.  The American Idol producers introduced a video of James and his competitors having a blast acting out wrestling matches with James spouting off like one of his wrestling hero’s as every member talked candidly about James’s obsession with the sport.

As the cameras returned focus to the Hollywood stage Idol host Ryan Secrest had a little fun of his own in warning James Durbin of an impending fate as well, and nearly shaking James to his knees WWE/TNA Wrestling champion, American icon and Durbin’s undeniable hero Hulk Hogan appeared in royal fashion nearly bringing the house down as the fans erupted.

Ryan Secrest got his shot at wrestling fame as well when Hogan staged a forearm shot to Secrest sending him reeling into and onto audience members, the night was as festive as any that can be remembered.

AND THEN! You knew this part was gonna happen, as the final cut of the night was decided a bizarre situation developed. Kasey Abrams, the raspy voiced and multi-talented new star found himself shockingly in the bottom 3. The panel of judges, his competitors and the entire audience was stunned beyond words due largely to the fact that Abrams is overwhelmingly talented in both singing and ability to play any musical instruments and has remained an odds on favorite to win this year’s Idol competition. Judges; Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler were rocked to silence as Abrams was given the option to sing for his life in the hope of getting a vote to be allowed to continue to the next round.

As fate would have it Abrams started into the second verse of his fate wielding song when drama hit a high note for all time on Idol. Ryan Secrest rushed back onstage stopping Kasey suddenly as both Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson waved their arms to stop him from singing anything more.

Kasey both stunned and scared turned to face all three judges when Randy Jackson made his presence known in telling Abrams that he doesn’t need to prove anything and does not understand why the viewing public voted against him, also clearly upset and voicing in was Jennifer Lopez as she was nearing a point of tears telling Kasey that he belonged in this and was too good to be done this way. And the usually subdued Steven Tyler jumped in urging Kasey on and reinforcing to the entire viewing public of how wrong they are about Kasey Abrams.

Visibly and loudly upset the three judges immediately and unanimously chose to invoke a onetime judges save to put Kasey through to the next round as Abrams held back tears himself as well as trying to keep from actually fainting on stage from the sudden shock.

All of us hope that the remainder of this American Idol season doesn’t become tainted with the same corrupt viewer voting practices as past shows have produced, and if it does happen that way we all hope that the same enthusiasm that saved Kasey Abrams will restore eventual order to the show that is American Idol.
